Trio of Spikers Named AVCA All-Region

The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced that three Colorado State volleyball players were named to the AVCA All-Region West Team.
Senior setter Melissa Courtney and senior middle blocker Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon were named to the team for the second straight year, while junior right-side hitter Dre Downs was named for the first time in her career.
Courtney was named the MVP of the Mountain West Conference for the second straight season and was also named the Mountain West Tournament MVP after leading the Rams to their second straight tournament title. She was also named the national player of the week after helping the Rams win the MWC Tournament.
Cahoon is a three-time Mountain West All-Conference selection and ranks among the top 20 in the nation in hitting percentage. Cahoon was also a Mountain West All-Tournament team selection.
Downs was the only right-side hitter named to the West Region team and was also named a Mountain West All-Conference and All-Tournament selection as a junior.
The trio will now be forwarded to the ballot for All-American status, which will be announced on December 15.
Colorado State ended its season 26-4 after falling in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament to Purdue.
