Offensive Explosion Leads Rams to Fifth Win

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The Colorado State softball team scored a season-high 12 runs to earn a 12-2 victory over San Diego in the Cal Poly Mustang Round-Up Tournament on Sunday morning.
The Rams gave up their only runs of the game in the top of the first but answered with four in the bottom half of the inning and added three in the third to take a five-run advantage into the fourth frame. The Rams then tacked on another run in the fifth and four in the sixth to put the game away on a three-run triple by leftfielder Brittany Huerta to end the game in the sixth by way of the run rule.
Huerta paced the CSU offense going 3-for-3 with a triple and a home run and tacking on four RBI on the day while pitcher Jessica Strickland continued a solid early-season with a complete game giving up two earned runs and striking out four.
The 12-run explosion marks the highest offensive production by the Rams since a 12-0 win over IPFW on March 14, 2002.
The win gives CSU a 5-2 record on the season heading into the Texas-San Antonio Tournament on Feb. 13-15.

CSU HOLDS OFF UC-SANTA BARBARA
San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Colorado State overcame a three-run, game-tying fifth inning by UC-Santa Barbara and scored a solo run in the bottom of the sixth to hold on for a 4-3 win in the Cal Poly Mustang Round-Up late Saturday night.
The Rams scored one run in the first and two in the fourth before UCSB?s three-run fifth frame.
Stephanie Roberts led the Rams? offense with a 3-for-4 performance including a home run and two RBI while Kerry Farrell, Brittany Huerta and Katie Dean all chipped in one-hit performances for CSU as well.
Megan Masser threw five innings allowing three earned runs on three hits and striking out seven before JayCee Wood came in to earn the win keeping UCSB from gaining a hit in the final two innings.
