With 12 players returning from the 2004 squad, including seven position players and three pitchers, the Colorado State softball team is back and working to return to the championship form of a season ago.

The Rams will begin this week with individual skill workouts as well as weight training and conditioning, followed by team practices and walk-on tryouts slated to begin on Sept. 13.

Leading the way for the Rams will be three seniors, including 2004 Easton First-Team All-American selection Kerry Farrell, Brittany Burtner and 2003 MWC Co-Player of the Year Stephanie Roberts. Other key returners include juniors Katie Dean, Jennifer Gardner, Genevieve Kelly, Melanie Laffoon and JayCee Wood and sophomores, Brittany Huerta, Stacey Leigh, Rachelle Padeway and 2004 MWC Freshman of the Year Jessica Strickland.

Three freshman newcomers will also join the Rams squad, including Lauren Cusick from Salem, Ore. and Molly Gallu and Julia Kloppe from Fort Collins.

The Rams will play a fall schedule consisting of four dates, starting with the annual Alumni Game on Sept. 19 at Ram Field followed by the Triple Crown Fall Classic on Sept. 25-26. They will then conclude the fall slate with the Triple Crown Games on Oct. 3 and the University of Nebraska Fall Tournament in Lincoln, Neb. on Oct. 9-10. Specific teams and game times for the final three tournaments are yet to be determined.
