Rams Fall To Razorbacks

The Colorado State Rams fell to 3-3 on the season Saturday with a 2-1 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks on the second day of the Mustang Round-up Tournament.
Two early runs by Arkansas in the first and second innnings was all the offense needed as the Razorbacks held off the Rams to claim the victory.
Colorado State cut the lead in half, in the third inning. Junior OF Katie Dean led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by senior 2B Stephanie Roberts. Junior OF Jennifer Gardner hit into a fielder?s choice and Dean was out at third base. Sophomore DP Jessica Strickland doubled to right-centerfield to score Roberts from second.
The Rams threatened again in the the fifth and seventh innings, but fell short. With Dean on third and one out in the fifth, Gardner grounded out to the thirdbaseman and Strickland flied out to left field. In the seventh, a single by sophomore Stacey Leigh set the table for the Rams. Senior SS Brittany Burtner, who was inserted as a pinch runner for Leigh advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by pinch hitter, junior Melanie Laffoon. Dean and Roberts, both grounded out to third to end the Rams? rally and the game.
Junior P Genevieve Kelly fell to 3-2 with the loss. Kelly struck out three batters and gave up two runs on five hits in five innings of work. Junior JayCee Wood finished the game for the Rams allowing one hit and recording two strikeouts in one inning.
The Rams close out play at the Mustang Round-up Tournament on Sunday in a rematch against Arkansas slated to begin at 9 a.m. PT.
