Rams Lose To Iowa On Final Day Of NIST

The Colorado State softball team fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the consolation game of the National Invitational Softball Tournament (NIST) 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Sunnyvale, Calif. The Rams are now 13-9 on the season and finished the NIST with a 3-2 record.
The Rams left 10 runners on base to the Hawkeyes four in the game. Iowa posted two big innings with two runs in the thrid inning and three runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The Rams were held scoreless for the first six innings, until Kerry Farrell drove in junior Katie Dean on a fielder?s choice in the top of the seventh inning.
Sophomore pitcher Jessica Strickland pitched the complete game, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out five Hawkeyes batters. Her record on the season now stands at 6-3.
Next up, the Rams will face play Rhode Island in San Jose, Calif. The double header is slated to begin Monday, March 14 at 10 a.m. PT.
