The 22nd ranked Colorado State volleyball team began practices for the 2005 season this afternoon in Moby Arena. Tom Hilbert, entering his ninth season as head coach at Colorado State, welcomed six returners and seven newcomers to campus yesterday for student-athlete orientation, then began practice this afternoon after skills testing this morning.

"I thought our first practice was very productive," said Hilbert. "I liked the effort of the entire team and think our upperclassmen were sharp and the newcomers will fit in nicely."

Seniors Casey Bauer, Dre Downs and Tess Rogers lead the way for the Rams, while returners Mekana Barnes, Tonya Mokelki and Katherine Whitney all looked ready to play today. The Rams welcome newcomers Amanda Fahnestock (Utah State transfer), Ashley Fornstrom, Brittany Fornstrom, Kelsey Hoff, Tessa Nelson, Jaime Strauss and Allison Talus.

Hilbert and the Rams will continue two-a-day practices until the start of classes on August 22. The team will then practice once a day until the opening match on Fri., Sept. 2 against Cal State Northridge in Malibu, Calif., at the Pepperdine Classic. The first home match for the Rams will be on Fri., Sept. 9 against UC Irvine in The Hilton Classic at 7:00 p.m. Tickets to all home matches in 2005 are on sale by calling 800.491.RAMS or online at www.csurams.com.
