Volleyball Ranked 22nd in Preseason Poll

In the CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Preseason poll released today, the Colorado State volleyball team is ranked 22nd in the nation. The Rams received 241 points and are the only team in the Mountain West Conference ranked in the top 25.
Colorado State begins practice on Wednesday after finishing the 2004 season ranked 19th overall with a 26-4 record. The Rams won a share of the Mountain West Conference regular season and were Mountain West Tournament Champions for the second straight year. The Rams return three starters off that team in seniors Casey Bauer, Dre Downs and Tess Rogers and add five newcomers to the fold.
Nebraska is ranked first in the poll with 35 of the possible 60 first-place nods and received 1,463 points, while Washington is second with 15 first-place votes and 1,424 points. Stanford, Hawai'i and Penn State round out the top five. 2005 opponents for Colorado State included in the rankings are: Pepperdine (#25) and Utah, BYU and Florida A&M which are all receiving votes.
The Rams open the 2005 season at the Pepperdine Classic on Sept. 2 in Malibu against Cal State Northridge. The home opener for the Rams will be on Sept. 9 against UC Irvine in The Hilton Classic at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Rams Ticket Office at 1.800.491.RAMS or by going on-line at www.csurams.com.
