Women's Tennis Loses First Dual Match of the Season

The Colorado State women's tennis team lost to No. 38 Nebraska by a score of 5-2 in the team's first dual match of the season.
Sophomore Anne Andersen had an outstanding day by defeating Vanessa Heute 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. In doubles play, Andersen, along with partner sophomore Emily Kirchem, defeated Imke Reimers and Pamela Castijellos 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Kirchem was defeated by No. 36 Kim Hartmann, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
Freshman Greer Satherlie scored the Rams other point by overcoming Ellinor Zugnor in a tough match, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (9). In doubles Satherlie paired up with senior Jessica Jones, but the team lost in a very close 9-7 match to Zugnor and Jennifer Cremieux. Jones lost at the No. 4 singles position to Milena Shulz-Gartner, 6-0, 6-3.
Freshman Lauren Strasburger suffered a 4-6, 4-6 loss to Reimers at No. 3 singles while at No. 5 singles, senior Jasmin Singh was defeated by Castijellos 6-1, 6-3. Strasburger and Singh lost at No. 2 doubles to Hartmann and Shulz-Gartner, 8-1.
"From the first match of the season, it shows that we can compete against the best teams in the country," said Coach Jon Messick.
"We were just a few points from beating them."
The Rams take on Illinios-Chicago Saturday at 10 a.m. CT.
