Rams Add One More to Lineup

Colorado State softball head coach Mary Yori has announced the signing of Rebecca Penland to a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Colorado State in 2006-2007.
Penland, a left-handed pitcher, will join the Rams from Riverside, Calif. where she is a three-year letter winner for Riverside Poly High School. As a junior in 2005, Penland was named the to the Ivy League 1st Team and was also selected as a scholar athlete. She posted a .354 batting average and led her team to its third straight Ivy League Championship. This season, as a senior, Penland has posted equally impressive numbers. She boasts a .320 batting average and an ERA of .778 with 45 strikeouts in 27 innings.
"Becca will be a great addition to our program as she is a quality pitcher and also a very good hitter," said Yori.
The Rams also signed Allison Majam, Robyn Mask and Sarah Sullivan during the fall signing period.
Majam will join the Rams from Mountain Empire High School in Pine Valley, Calif., where she pitched and played middle infield. At Mountain Empire, Majam earned All-CIF Division IV first team honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. As a junior in 2005, Majam was named the All Citrus League West Player of the Year, hitting .594 with 10 home runs, and leading her team to its third straight Citrus League West Championship. Majam was also a member of the SoCal BREAKERS 18U Gold club team.
Mask is a Vancouver, Wash. native from Prairie High School. As a sophomore in 2004, she posted a .968 fielding percentage at shortstop and hit at a .431 clip with a slugging percentage of .521. She is a 2005 All-Region and All-League first team selection. She is also a two-time 4A state softball tournament second-team performer, earning the nods in 2003 and 2005. Mask also competed for the Vancouver Power club team.
Sullivan is a Colorado product from Sterling. In 2005, she was named the Northern Conference player of the year and was designated as an All-Northern Conference catcher. She also earned All-State honors from the Colorado High School Coaches Association and Colorado Coaches of Girl's Sports. The Rocky Mountain News named Sullivan to the All-State honorable mention team. In 2003 and 2004 she was named All-Tri-Valley and All-Northern Conference as a shortstop. During the summer of 2005, Sullivan also played locally as a member of the Fort Collins Triple Crown Stars.
"We feel we have signed four very fine athletes who will be joining our team next year," added Yori.
