The Colorado State University softball team (23-19, 4-10 MWC) homered four times en route to a win in game two of a conference double header with the UNLV Rebels (25-8, 10-0 MWC) on Sunday afternoon at Ram Field. The Rams fell 5-6 in game one, but won game two by a 9-2 decision to snap a 10-game skid.

In the first game, the Rams' rally in the bottom of the seventh inning was cut one run short as they were edged out by the Rebels 5-6. UNLV opened the game, posting two runs in the first inning and one in the second. The Rams were held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Senior Tara Harbert led-off the inning with a single but was caught stealing second base for the first time in 26 attempts this season. Sophomore Lauren Cusick singled to left field and sophomore Julia Kloppe followed with her fifth home run of the season to put the Rams to within one run, 3-2.

The Rebels extended their lead to 6-2 in the top of the sixth inning with runs from freshman Kendall McSwain and sophomore Rosa Ordaz. The Rams' offense responded with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, but came up short. Cusick was hit by a pitch at the beginning of the sixth before Kloppe doubled down the left field line. Senior Kate Dean hit her first triple of the season to score Cusick and Kloppe. Colorado State got its last run from freshman Shannon Causgrove when Cusick reached on an error by Rebel third baseman Kendall Fearn with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. However, Fearne redeemed herself on the next play, snagging a liner off the bat of Kloppe to end the game.

Junior Jessica Strickland picked up the loss for the Rams, falling to 9-13 on the season. She started the game and pitched 6.0 innings. She allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out two batters. Freshman Kim Klabough pitched one inning in relief of Strickland, allowing no hits.

In the second game, Colorado State jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Harbert singled to lead off the first inning, followed by a Strickland walk. Cusick was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Harbert scored one batter later on a Kloppe ground out. Fearn homered in the first at bat of the second inning to put the Rebels on the board and tie the game, 1-1.

The Rams answered with a three-run homer run by strickland to give CSU a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Katie Dean added another run with a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning and Padeway hit her first career home run in the fourth inning before Strickland scored on a double by Dean to give the Rams a 7-1 advantage.

UNLV added a run in the top of the fifth inning when junior Brittany Freight scored on a single by senior Maggie Livreri.

The Rams didn't let up, scoring two more runs to finish the game with a 9-2 advantage. Klabough hit a homer to centerfield in the bottom of the fifth inning and Harbert scored on a double by Strickland in the sixth.

Klabough pitched the complete game for the Rams, improving to 13-6 on the season. She allowed two runs on six hits while striking out three batters.

The Rams will close their ten-game home stand with a double header against North Dakota State on April 26. The first game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. MT at Ram Field.
