Final Stats

The Colorado State softball team defeated Purdue 5-3 in the final game of the Fresno State Bulldog Classic to take second in the tournament behind host Fresno State. The Rams were 4-1 over the weekend and improved to 14-11 for the season. "Our team played really well this weekend and lot of different players were able to contribute," noted head coach Mary Yori.

The Rams opened the scoring in the top of the first inning getting a run from junior Lauren Cusick. They added two more in the second when sophomore Shannon Causgrove hit a homer to center field to score junior Julia Kloppe.

Colorado State took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when freshman Allison Majam recorded the third home run of her career. The Boilermakers rallied with three runs, but it wasn't enough. The Rams sealed the 5-3 victory with another run in the sixth when Majam scored on freshman Rebecca Penland's double.

Majam led the team, going 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs and one RBI. Causgrove was 1-for-3 with one run and two RBI.

Senior Jessica Strickland started the game for the Rams, pitching 6.0 innings. She allowed three runs on five hits and struck out three batters. Transfer Cayte Billman entered the game in relief of Strickland to pitch the final inning and pick up her first collegiate save, giving up no hits and striking out two batters. Strickland picked up the win and improved to 4-3 on the season.

Colorado State is set to face the University of Iowa in a double header in Sacramento, Calif. on March 13, beginning at 2 p.m. MT.
