Rams Drop Two at BYU

The Colorado State softball team dropped two games of a Mountain West Conference doubleheader on Thursday night, falling to the BYU Cougars (27-16, 6-2 MWC), 10-6 in game one and 10-3 in game two.
In game one, the Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when freshman Allison Majam hit the first of her two home runs, a two-run shot. BYU's Angeline Quiocho put the Cougars on the board with a lead-off solo home run in the bottom half of the third inning. CSU freshman Allison Majam pushed the Rams lead to 3-1 with a solo homer to lead off the top of the fourth inning.
The Cougars, however, responded with seven runs. Following a lead-off home run by Emi Snow, senior Jessica Strickland replaced starter Kim Klabough in the circle for the Rams. The Cougars added six more runs before CSU was able to get out of the inning.
In the top of the fifth inning, Majam recorded her second home run, a three-run shot, to cut the BYU lead to 8-6. BYU's Courtney Nix Clark posted a two-run homer in the in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach for the Rams.
Majam finished the game 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored. Lauren Cusick and Munoz was also 2-for-3. Munoz recorded one RBI and one run, while Cusick added two runs for the Rams.
In game two, the Rams once again used the long ball to take an early lead in the contest. Jessica Strickland scored on a one-out single by Majam in the first inning, and after a single by Munoz, junior Julia Kloppe singled to lead the bases. Sophomore Shannon Causgrove was hit by a pitch to score Majam from third base and give the Rams a 2-0 lead.
BYU answered once again with a solo homer by Jodi Norton, the MWC-leader in home runs, in the bottom of the first.
Munoz singled in the top of the second inning to score Cusick from second base to give the Rams a 3-1 lead.
BYU went on to score three runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to capture the 10-3 victory.
The Rams left 10 runners on base in the second game. Strickland and Munoz led the Rams with 2-for-3 performances from the plate.
Next up, the Rams will travel to Salt Lake City play Utah in single games on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game is set to begin at 4 p.m. MT, while Sunday's contest begins at 1 p.m. MT.
