Mekana Barnes repeated as the MWC Player of the Week

Volleyball opens Mountain West competition Wednesday night

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State opens the 2007 Mountain West Conference schedule on a five-match win streak as they host TCU Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Rams and TCU have met nine times and CSU undefeated in Moby Arena for the series.

Mekana Barnes became the first player in CSU history to win the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week in consecutive weeks. Barnes hit a blistering .544 on her way to being named the MVP of the Hilton Classic. For the week, Barnes averaged 4.33 kills, 1.75 blocks, 0.67 digs and 5.67 points per game in 12 games played.

The Horned Frogs enter the match with the best record in the Mountain West at 10-1. TCU is led by Lauren Otto who averages 3.67 kills per game and hits .259. The best in hitting percentage for the Horned Frogs is Kourtney Edwards who hits .396 with 3.33 kills per game. The TCU setter is Nirelle Hampton with an assist per game average of 11.44. The Horned Frogs have swept four matches this season and are undefeated at home.

Last weekend the Rams won the Hilton Classic with victories over in-state rival Colorado, Miami (OH) and Winthrop. Tonya Mokelki and Ashley Fornstrom were named to the all-tournament team. The Rams currently have six players hitting .200 or better for the season.

The match can be heard on KCSU 90.5 and are broadcast live through CSURams.com. Live stats coverage will be available for the match on the website. CSU will wrap up the first week of MWC competition as they host New Mexico Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
