SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Freshman Caitlan Stem and sophomore Allison Majam combined for five runs, six hits and seven RBI, and senior pitcher Cayte Billman hurled a complete-game two-hit performance, as the Colorado State softball team waited through rain delays to pick up an 11-0 (5) victory over UC Riverside at the USD Tournament on Friday evening.
Stem hit 2-for-4 from the plate with a double and a triple and recorded four RBI and a stolen base while scoring three times in the contest. Stem's one-out triple in the top of the first inning led to the eventual game-winning run when she scored on a passed ball. Majam finished 4-for-4 in the game, scoring two runs and recording three RBI and a stolen base of her own.
Seniors Julia Kloppe and reigning MWC Player of the Week Lauren Cusick also posted productive games for the Rams. Kloppe hit 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, while Cusick was held without a hit for the first time in eight games, but scored two runs. Sophomore Kayla Kreutzman also tallied two runs in the contest.
Billman recorded her third shutout of the season and improved to 5-0, allowing just two hits while striking out four batters in 5.0 innings pitched.
The Rams, who improved to 10-1 on the season with their second victory in as many weekends over UC Riverside, were scheduled to play two games on Friday but rainy conditions in San Diego caused delays. The tournament schedule has been revised and Colorado State will compete in all five scheduled games on the weekend, with its matchup against host USD rescheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m. PT.
The Rams will play twice on Saturday, as originally scheduled, beginning with a matchup against Loyola Marymount at 2 p.m. PT. Colorado State will then face Nevada at 4:30 p.m. PT.
