FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Tara Harbert, a standout on the 2006 Rams softball squad, has been named to the 18-player roster of the 2008 USA Women's Baseball National Team, set to compete in the IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup in Matsuyama, Japan.

“Tara is an outstanding athlete and has earned something very special through her preparation and commitment,” said Rams softball Head Coach Mary Yori.  “We are extremely proud to have a CSU softball alumae who has achieved such an outstanding accomplishment in representing the USA Baseball organization and being a member of this prestigious team.”

Harbert, a native of Niwot, Colo., joined the Rams squad after spending three seasons at the University of Hawaii, transferring back to CSU to pursue her graduate degree in veterinary medicine in her final season of NCAA eligibility.

In just one season at Ram Field, Harbert excelled, starting all 52 games at second base for the Rams.  She ranked second on the team with an overall .390 batting average, led the team with 49 runs scored, and added a new dimension the CSU offense, stealing 27 of 28 bases.  She closed her senior season ranking in the Rams’ single-season Top 5 record book in several categories, including fourth in runs and stolen bases, and fifth in hits and at bats.

Harbert earned recognition as a Mountain West all-conference performer and was also named to the academic all-MWC team during her time at Colorado State.

About the USA Women’s National Team
The USA Baseball Women's National Team was established in 2004 when USA Baseball began selecting and training an official national team for women. An 18-player team was chosen following open tryouts across the nation, and the squad went on to capture the gold medal in the first-ever IBAF Women's Baseball World Cup in Edmonton, Canada. The team repeated as IBAF World Cup gold-medalists in 2006 in Taipei, Taiwan.

When not competing in the World Cup, the Women’s National Team competes in international friendship series, leads youth clinics and works to grow the game of baseball among women in the U.S.
