Late rally lifts Catamounts over Rams

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Colorado State softball team (13-12) took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not hold on as Vermont (2-14) scored two runs on a two-out single by Laura Stagliano to give the Catamounts the 3-2 victory.
Colorado State took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when junior Robyn Mask reached on a fielder's choice to score freshman Christine Thomsen, who singled to lead off the inning.
Vermont tied the game at one in the fourth inning, but the Rams added a run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Mask to plate junior Ashley Munoz.
In the seventh inning the Catamounts were down to their final out when Stagliano singled down the left field line
Junior Rebecca Penland started in the circle for Colorado State and threw 6.2 innings. She allowed two earned runs while striking out five batters.
The Rams travel to Stockton, Calif., on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Pacific. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. MDT.
