Capital Classic…
Colorado State heads to Sacramento, Calif., for the Capital Classic Thursday through Sunday. The Rams face Dartmouth and Sacramento State on Thursday at 11 a.m. MDT and 2 p.m. MDT, respectively. On Friday, Colorado State faces Dartmouth at 2 p.m. MDT. On Saturday the Rams will play California and on Sunday will play Cal Poly. Both contests will start at 12 p.m. MDT.
About Dartmouth…
Dartmouth is 5-4 to begin the 2009 campaign. The Big Green is led by Molly Khalil with a .423 batting average in nine starts. She has recorded three doubles, two home runs and nine RBI while recording a .769 slugging percentage and a .452 on-base percentage. In the circle, Dartmouth is led by Kat Hicks with a 1-0 record and a 3.45 ERA in 15.2 innings. This will be the first and second meetings between the Rams and the Big Green, with the teams facing off twice during the Capital Classic.
About Sacramento State…
Colorado State and Sacramento State met last weekend at the National Invitational Tournament in San Jose, Calif., with the Hornets defeating the Rams 7-2. In the all-time series, Colorado State holds a slight advantage over Sacramento State, 11-10. This season the Hornets (9-15) are led by Izmena Cabrera with a .343 batting average in 22 starts. She has recorded 11 doubles, one triple and 10 RBI. Megan Schaefer leads Sacramento State in the circle with a 4-3 record and a 3.02 ERA in 53.1 innings.
About California…
The Bears are 21-4 this season and are currently ranked seventh in the latest ESPN/USA Softball poll. Cal is led by Jamia Reid at the plate with a .357 average in 25 starts. She has recorded a double, a triple, six home runs and 17 RBI. Valerie Arioto leads the team in the circle with a 0.84 ERA in 67 innings. She has recorded an 8-0 record while striking out 86 batters. The Rams are 2-8 all-time against the Bears. The last time these teams met, Colorado State defeated Cal 2-0 on a two-run single by then-freshman Sarah Sullivan.
About Cal Poly…
The Mustangs are 16-6 this season and are currently riding a 10-game win streak. At the plate, Cal Poly is led by Jessica Rogers with a .373 average while recording a triple and an RBI. Anna Cahn is 10-3 in the circle this season with a 1.46 ERA in 100.2 innings. She has recorded 83 strikeouts while keeping opposing batters at a .186 average. The Mustangs lead the all-time series 10-3 over the Rams.
National Invitational…
The Rams finished 1-4 at the National Invitational Tournament in San Jose, Calif., last weekend. Colorado State split the first day of the tournament, defeating Vermont 7-0, but fell to host San Jose State 3-0. The Rams fell twice on the second day of the tournament to Sacramento State, 7-2, and UC Davis, 4-2. Vermont defeated Colorado State on Sunday, 3-2.
Freshman Duo…
Freshmen Dani Chaplin and Kelli Eubanks have combined for 21 starts this season and 27 appearances in the circle. They have thrown a combined 124.1 innings while recording 82 strikeouts. Chaplin has recorded a 3.15 ERA while keeping opposing batters at a .271 average. Eubanks has recorded a 2.07 ERA with opposing batters hitting .236 against her.
The .300 Club…
Five Rams are batting better than .300 this season. Sophomore Caitlan Stem leads the team with a .351 average at the plate with seven doubles, one triple, two home runs and 14 RBI. Junior Allison Majam ranks second on the team with a .340 average with four doubles and nine RBI. Senior Shannon Causgrove and freshman Christine Thomsen are ranked third and fourth, respectively, with Causgrove recording a .333 average and Thomsen recording a .310 average at the plate. Causgrove has four doubles and seven RBI on the season while Thomsen has hit two doubles and recorded 10 RBI. Junior Ashley Munoz has recorded a .307 average this season at the plate with three doubles, three home runs and a team-leading 18 RBI.
Movin' On Up…
As a aquad, Colorado State is 189-for-398 (.475) when trying to advance a runner. Freshman Christine Thomsen is successful advancing runners in 61 percent of her at-bats (25-for-41) and leads the team. Sophomore Caitlan Stem is successful 58 percent of the time (22-for-38) and ranks second on the team. Five other Rams are successful at advancing runners more than 50 percent of the time.
Two-Out Rally…
Colorado State is batting .263 with two outs this season. Junior Allison Majam leads the team at the plate with two outs, batting .556 (10-for-18), followed by sophomore Caitlan Stem with a .464 average (13-for-28) with two outs. Four of Majam's nine RBI have occurred with two outs while seven of Stem's 14 RBI have occurred with two outs. As a team, the Rams have recorded 37 of their 84 total RBI with two outs.
