FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Rams began their fall season of exhibition games on Sunday against Western Nebraska Community College and the University of Northern Colorado, losing both games.
In the first game, senior Caitlan Stem got CSU’s first hit against WNCC to lead off the fourth inning and later advanced on a passed ball. But WNCC scored the winning run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on a wild pitch against CSU starter Kelli Eubanks, leading the Cougars to a 1-0 victory.
Later in the day, UNC scored the first run of Game 2 on a double with two outs in the top of the fourth. In the CSU fifth, freshman Morghan Doughty scored on a wild pitch with two outs and Stem at the plate. The winning run came in the sixth with a UNC solo home run off of sophomore pitcher Kelsey Jo O’Brien. The Bears ended the afternoon with a 2-1 victory.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do, obviously,” Head Coach Jen Fisher said after the game. “But we made some adjustments and came out and played hard in the second game.
“As long as we’re working hard and getter better every day, I’m happy with that.”
The Rams will resume exhibition play Saturday at 9 a.m. against the University of Great Falls at Ram Field. CSU then hosts three games on Sunday against Metro State, Black Hills State and Regis University beginning at 9 a.m. Parking and admission are free.
