LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a 3-0 win in its only match of the week, Colorado State climbed one spot in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 9. It marks the 25th-consecutive poll in which CSU has been ranked, and ninth in a row in the top 10.
CSU has been ranked in 262 of the 474 all-time polls – 14th in the NCAA – and holds 72 appearances in the top 10 – 18th.
Also on Monday, CSU moved up one spot in the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index, to No. 12. The RPI in recent years has played a large role in NCAA tournament seeding and determining the 16 first- and second-round host sites. The RPI is based off of three categories: a team’s winning percentage (25 percent), its opponents’ winning percentage (50 percent) and the winning percentage of its opponents’ opponents (25 percent).
In the top-25 poll, the top eight teams remained steady. CSU jumped in front of Illinois, which fell from No. 9 to 12 after a loss to unranked Northwestern. Three of CSU’s 2014 opponents remain ranked – Wisconsin (No. 4), BYU (No. 13) and Arizona State (No. 19), while Marquette is receiving votes.
With three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Rams own a two-match lead in the Mountain West standings. Four of CSU’s final five matches are at home, including Thursday vs. Air Force and Saturday vs. New Mexico – which was picked to finish second and features the MW preseason player of the year. Tickets can be purchased here.
