FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's basketball team (13-4, 5-1 Mountain West) extended its winning streak to nine games on Saturday afternoon as they defeated conference foe San José State (8-9, 1-5 MW), 77-59, at Moby Arena.

"I love the emotion, the togetherness," Colorado State Head Coach Ryun Williams stated. "This was a really good team win."

After the Spartans got out to a quick 5-3 lead, Rams junior guard Jamie Patrick drained a three pointer with 17:11 in the first half which would ultimately be the last time that San José State led for the remainder of the game. Patrick finished the first half with a team-high 11 points.

Colorado State seemed to have no trouble breaking the early full court pressure defense applied by the Spartans, and quickly found them ahead 21-11 after two consecutive lay-ins from Rams junior forward Keyora Wharry. Colorado State ended the half with 42 points, which was just one shy of its season-high vs. any Division I opponent this year.

"We can just pass the ball," sophomore guard Ellen Nystrom said. "One extra pass and we have great shooters in the corner."

Starting the second half, the Rams struggled shooting the ball hitting only 1-of-8 from the field until junior guard Hanne Mestdagh drilled a three and extended the Rams' lead back up to 19. After San José State was able to lower the deficit to just eight points at 13:24, the Rams were able to go on 16-4 and finish the game 77-59.

San José State guard Ta'Rea Cunnigan made history Saturday as she became the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,762 points. Needing six points for the record, she barely made it over the hump with eight points.

Colorado State had four players register double-digit scoring with senior guard AJ Newton and junior forward Alana Arias leading the game with 14 points. Jamie Patrick and Keyora Wharry tallied 13 and 10, respectively.

The Rams will have a much needed week off until they play again, facing the Aztecs of San Diego State in San Diego, Calif., next Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT. The game can be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
