Final Stats

TUCSON, Ariz. – Colorado State withstood UT-Arlington’s late rally on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Mavericks, 7-6. The win concluded the Wildcat Invitational, with CSU going 2-3.

CSU (8-12) took an early 2-0 lead, with both runs coming with two outs in the first inning. Senior Haley David was hit by a pitch and senior Shae Rodriguez singled, but the Mavericks (11-8) got the second out to cool CSU’s threat. Junior Jaelyn Manzanares, though, would get the Rams on the board with an RBI single to left field. Up stepped freshman Savannah Clark, who recorded the first of her three hits on the day, bringing in Rodriguez with a base hit.

The Rams applied the pressure in both the second and third innings, scoring one run apiece to take a 4-0 advantage. In the second, sophomore Taryn Arcarese belted her first career home run, while Manzanares homered in the third. It was Manzanares’ second in as many days.

UTA threatened in its half of the fourth inning, scoring three times to cut the Rams’ lead to 4-3. After getting the first two batters out, UTA took advantage of three CSU errors, scoring three unearned runs, including a home run. CSU responded right away, though, padding its lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Rodriguez recorded an infield single, and senior Danielle Wikre followed with a base knock. With two on and two out, Clark doubled to left, clearing the bases. CSU picked up another run when senior Taylor Hutton scored Clark with an RBI single to center.

CSU would get out of a jam in the fifth, striking out the final batter with the bases loaded, and held UTA scoreless in the sixth. The Mavericks attempted a late-game rally in the last of the seventh, with the first four batters reaching base. Leading 7-5 with two runners in scoring position and no one out, the Rams brought in senior Molly Randle to close the game.

Randle got the first batter to line out to left field, and despite a walk and an RBI single to cut the score to 7-6, Rodriguez, CSU’s center fielder, threw out a runner at second, and Randle got the final batter to ground out to end the game.

The Rams pounded out double-digits for hits, with all eight position players recording at least one. Clark went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI, while Manzanares went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in. In addition to her assist in the seventh inning, Rodriguez had two hits and two runs scored. Junior Holly Reinke pitched six-plus innings and earned her fourth win of the season. She earned the victory in both of CSU’s wins on the weekend. She struck out three while allowing three earned runs. Randle picked up the save, allowing zero earned runs in her work in the seventh.

CSU will now gear up for its home debut on Friday, as the Rams host the three-day Colorado State Classic. Admission to all games is free.
