FORT COLLINS, Colo. --Colorado State head volleyball coach Tom Hilbert announced Wednesday the addition of Julia Cubbedge, who signed her National Letter of Intent. Cubbedge, a native of Murrieta, Calif., is a versatile six-rotation player who could see time as either a right-side attacker or setter.

"She's an excellent all-around volleyball player," Hilbert said. "She can set, she has a great arm and her volleyball IQ is really high. She's smaller than the player that we normally recruit, but we feel like she's going to be effective for us because she can do a lot of different things, and do them well. She's used to playing against players bigger than her, and she makes up for it by the way she plays."

For Chaparral High School, the left-handed attacker was a four-year varsity starter and was her team's MVP as both a junior and senior. She was named a 2014 Prep Volleyball Senior Ace Honorable Mention, in addition to earning three first-team All-Southwestern League honors. She was also recognized as a two-time Press Enterprise and two-time Valley News first-team selection. Cubbedge plays for the 951 Elite Club.

"What stood out to me about Colorado State compared to other schools was the overall experience," Cubbedge said. "I loved the girls, the team atmosphere and the community in general. I want to contribute to CSU's winning tradition and be a part of this program."

Cubbedge was born in Encinitas, Calif., and is an only child born to Teresa and Bart Cubbedge. She intends to major in health & exercise science, and wants to further study nursing after graduation.

She is one of five additions to the Rams' 2015 roster, joining Colorado products Kirstie Hillyer and Jessica Jackson, who signed National Letters of Intent in November; Alex Reid, a senior transfer from Long Beach State who has been competing with the Rams this spring; and Katie Craig, a defensive specialist from California who was announced in January.

CSU returns nine letterwinners from last year's squad, which went 31-3 and won a sixth-consecutive Mountain West championship. The Rams were ranked as high as No. 6 nationally and advanced to the Regional Semifinals of the NCAA tournament. CSU concludes its spring practice season Saturday with a sand scrimmage at New Mexico.
