Spring update: Blog post from Adrianna Culbert

Hi everyone, it's senior Adrianna Culbert. For our last week of spring team practices, we had a change of pace and worked on outdoor sand volleyball. We spent all week working on the different aspects of the game that happen when you only have two people covering the entire court. We all had to adjust quite a bit, because playing sand is completely different than playing indoor. It was really fun to be able to have a change in our practice, and especially with only two people on the court everyone has to do all the skills, so it really helps with our overall game. Thursday, because of the weather, we took a trip down to the Oasis, an indoor sand facility in Broomfield, to get more practice with our partners in preparation for Saturday's sand tournament down in New Mexico.
We left Friday afternoon and bussed 7 1/2 hours down to Albuquerque, where everyone slept a ton and watched a bunch of movies! Then, Saturday we were all paired up and we played two matches against the New Mexico sand volleyball team, which has been training all spring because of its new NCAA-sponsored program.
We didn't necessarily get the outcomes that we always hope for, but being able to play against another team that has more experience in the sand definitely helped us learn a lot. We all were a lot better as the day went on, and we became more comfortable in the sand. You learn a ton about your partner and the best way to use both of your strengths over your opponent.
That was our final spring tournament, and we are done with team practices as well. For the next couple weeks before finals, we will continue to lift three days a week at 6:30 a.m. and go back to having individual practices to work on specific skills for the fall. It's so crazy that the next time we compete will be during season in Moby!
