FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the second night in a row, the Colorado State women’s tennis team finished a match victorious. The Rams defeated the visiting Metro State Roadrunners, 6-1, in front of a nice crowd at the Fort Collins Country Club. The Rams are now 2-2 during the spring season, defeating CSU-Pueblo Friday evening.

“We have been trying to build momentum and rhythm and we did that much better tonight,” CSU head coach Jon Messick said. “We played well tonight, and we kind of had to. Metro (State) is a good team and they played tough."

CSU won the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Aina Hernandez Soler/Madison Porter defeated the duo from Metro State, 6-1. The Rams' No. 3 team, led by seniors Maddie Buxton/Laia Hernandez Soler, defeated the Roadrunners, 6-1. The No. 2 pair did not finish the matchup due to CSU's doubles point victory.

“We really jumped on them in doubles," Messick said. "We played really clean and we got the doubles point. The doubles point always makes a big difference going into the singles play.”

In singles action, the Rams swept the No. 2 through No.6 position, all in straight sets. CSU freshman Emily Kolbow started the winning rally after topping her opponent (6-1, 6-4). Singles action was capped by a hard-fought comeback in the second set by Celine Voss. After clinching the first set, Voss dug herself out of a two-games-to-none hole. The match was knotted at 4-4 before Voss managed to wrap up the last game in nailbiting fashion.

CSU's spring season continues next week when the Rams take their first road trip of the season to Nebraska. The Rams will face off against Wichita State on Saturday, Feb. 13, and against Nebraska on Sunday, Feb. 14.
