FORT COLLINS, Colo. – On the second day of the Jon Messick Invitational, the Colorado State women's tennis team continued their successful fall season picking up two doubles victories and a handful of singles wins. This fall, the team has notched 13 doubles match victories in a total of 16 contests. The Rams are hosting South Dakota, Iowa State, Northern Colorado, and Wyoming in honor of CSU's former head coach Jon Messick.

During doubles, the Rams triumphed in three out of four matches, with No.1 pair Priscilla Palermo/Alyssa Grijalva winning (6-3) against Iowa State. Rams' Solene Crawley/Emma Corwin defeated Northern Colorado (6-3), and a combination doubles duo consisting of CSU player Sandra Keta and Iowa State player Karen Alvarez registered a win versus the South Dakota pair Habiba Aly/Hannah Wich (6-2). Colorado State's Emily Luetschwager/Emily Kolbow were edged by the pair from Iowa State (6-3).

Colorado State won four of six singles matches today, defeating competitors from all four opposing teams. Rams' Sandra Keta fought her own battle in singles during a three-set matchup against Iowa State. She dropped her first set, returning strong and winning her last two sets, finishing (2-6, 6-4, 6-4).

Colorado State freshman Emma Corwin lost in singles to Iowa State after a lengthy three-set match (6-4, 2-6, 6-3), while her teammate Solene Crawley was also defeated by Iowa State's Karen Alvarez in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).

On Sunday afternoon, the tournament will have one overall winner who will have won the most doubles and singles matches. The tiebreakers go down to matches lost and then to a coin flip.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Jarod Camerota
On today's performance
"I think overall we competed well as a team today, everyone did a good job. We didn't win them all, but we competed well and that's what we're looking for. We still got things to work on but it was a good day."
