FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After three days at the University Tennis Complex the Colorado State women's tennis team wrapped up the second annual Jon Messick Invitational. The Rams overall had an impressive tournament, and freshman Priscilla Palermo won a three-set tiebreaker on Sunday afternoon to become the overall tournament champion. Palermo edged her teammate Alyssa Grijalva who also notched six wins during the tournament, but Grijalva lost the second tournament tiebreaker between the two of them with games lost.

On Sunday, Palermo was in a battle with her foe from Wyoming Magdalena Stencel. The two played the longest match of the day and it was the last contest to finish with an audience watching the tiebreaker till the final point. Stencel bested Palermo in the first set, but Palermo turned the tide of the contest when she rallied down 4-1 in the second set to win 7-5. Palermo and Stencel went back and forth in the third set, but Palermo made a few extra plays in the tiebreaker to win.

Colorado State's Solene Crawley trailed in the first set of her match 3-0 vs. Northern Colorado, but she turned it around to snag straight set victories (6-3, 6-3). Rams' Emma Corwin also grabbed straight set wins managing to only lose two games during the contest (6-0, 6-2).

The Rams this fall have won 14 of the 19 doubles contests they have competed in, and Palermo/Grijalva won all three of their doubles matches during the weekend.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Jarod Camerota
On the team's performance during the weekend
"I think we played pretty good tennis, and I think we are getting better as the fall has gone on. We still have things to work on but I like where we are as a team. Positioning on the court during doubles is big and we have to make sure our positioning is good and we are getting our feet to the ball."
