Ally Murphy-Pauletto earns NCAA’s honor in vote among four finalists
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State freshman forward Ally Murphy-Pauletto has been voted the NCAA Soccer Women's Player of the Week. The results of the poll went final late Wednesday afternoon.
In fans' choice polling at the official NCAA Soccer Twitter account (@NCAASoccer), Murphy-Pauletto earned 36 percent of the vote to top Seattle's Leahi Manthei (30 percent), Western Carolina's Natalia Icen (22 percent) and Kennesaw State's Tiffany Sornpao (12 percent). 1,747 total votes were cast.
This marks the second accolade of the week for the freshman, who was named Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The Boulder, Colo., native is the first in CSU soccer's five-year history to earn each respective honor.
Murphy-Pauletto became the first student-athlete in program history to record a hat trick in the Rams' 5-1 win over previously undefeated New Mexico State. CSU's win was its first in the new CSU Soccer Field, while the Rams' five goals against the Aggies marked a new single-match team record.
The freshman scored her first career goal in the match's 38th minute to give the Rams their first lead over New Mexico State last Friday. NMSU tied the match three minutes into the second half, but Murphy-Pauletto forced a turnover inside the Aggies' 18-yard box in the 52nd minute and sent her second career goal into the upper-left corner of the net to put the Rams back up, 2-1. She added her hat trick-clinching tally on a cross from fellow freshman Alyssa Yoshida to put the match away in the 89th minute.
Murphy-Pauletto is the fastest Ram to register her first three career goals, reaching that mark before any Ram ever reached her first two career goals (Hannah Gerdin – two goals in six matches in 2015). She leads the Rams in goals (three), points (six), shots (nine) and shots on goal (six) this season, and has appeared in all five matches in her freshman campaign.
The Colorado State women's soccer team returns to action on the road next week, taking on 2016 NCAA Tournament participant SIUE in Edwardsville, Ill., at 6 p.m. MT on Friday. The team returns home on Sunday for the team's Orange Out against North Dakota State, which is slated for a 1 p.m. MT start from the new CSU Soccer Field. Attendance for all Colorado State soccer matches is free.
