Unfinished, Unbothered, Unstoppable

CSU closes its home slate with a 4-0 win over Nevada

While it may have been bittersweet, Sunday felt less like an ending and more like the start of something new.

Under the late October sun, Colorado State soccer played its final home game of the regular season—a farewell to Ram Field, at least for now. But if the Rams felt sentimental, they didn't show it. They played fast, fiery, and fearless, shutting out Nevada 4-0 in a match that embodied the team's season-long mantra: unfinished.

Winning wasn't just a goal but the only option.

Because as the Rams have believed all year, they're not just contenders. They're the best in the Mountain West.

"That belief in ourselves carries us," said sophomore forward Kaja Dionne. "It's been carrying us through the whole season. The beginning of the year, we had these amazing wins before conference, and then in conference, we just try to carry that belief. We showed today that we're not going to stop with that belief and bring it to the Mountain West."

With Air Force defeating Fresno State earlier in the day, CSU secured its spot in the Mountain West Tournament. But for a team whose identity is built on constant motion, clinching doesn't mean complete. The Rams are already looking forward to a stronger tournament seed and a deeper postseason run.

There's always another goalpost to chase, another box to check. Because the moment they get comfortable, they lose the very thing that defines them.

"It's the more goals the better," coach Keeley Hagen said. "I think we got eight shots a piece each half, you know? We want to never be complacent regardless of what the scoring was. So, I was happy to see them come out of the gate so fast."

Come out fast they did. CSU's all-time leader in goals and points, Olivia Fout, didn't waste a second. Within ten minutes, she'd already scored twice—her final Ram Field performance stamped with exclamation marks.

Fout was honored before kickoff for her record-setting career, but she's never been one for self-celebration. Her legacy isn't just in the goals; it's in the grit.

"Being a senior, it was more sentimental for me," Fout said. "I didn't think about it that much until Mia Massey said it was our last home game on the pitch. It's really surreal, but I'm excited for postseason. We've got a great group of girls, and we're going to go give them hell in the Mountain West Championship."

In the second half, Dionne joined the party, curling a shot into the bottom right corner for her third goal of the season and second in four days.

For a sophomore who's finding her rhythm, it was more than a goal but a glimpse of what's next.

"I'm super happy," Dionne said. "I've been waiting to get some cool finishes or just any goals throughout the season. And today, to get one in the last home game really just helped spark my belief even more."

Freshman Hope Thao also left her imprint, earning her first home start after logging 70 minutes at San Jose State the week before. The international talent is quickly adapting to CSU's tempo, showing flashes of composure and creativity that hint at a bright future.

"She's had a very unique experience that led her to us," Hagen said. "She's playing more and learning our style and positioning. It looks like she's getting more comfortable out there, which is what we need. As always, everyone needs to keep improving, and she's doing that."

The Rams' 4-0 win was a reminder of who they are and what they still have left to prove in this postseason run.

Because being the best starts with believing it's possible

"It drives us," Fout said. "It helps us to have the confidence, that swagger walking out of the locker room. It's what our coaches always say, you have to come out and have the confidence that you'll get the job done."

That job remains unfinished.

The Rams will take that swagger on the road to Laramie for a Border War showdown against Wyoming on Oct. 30—one more chance to sharpen their edge before the Mountain West Tournament begins.
