MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Colorado State Rams tallied their first win of the 2018 season with a 6-1 victory over Milwaukee on Sunday.
CSU (1-2) promptly won the doubles point and scored five singles victories for the win. Milwaukee (0-4) recorded one singles point.
The Rams' No. 1 doubles duo of Alyssa Grijalva and Priscilla Palermo took care of business quickly against Milwaukee's Labina Petrovska and Anna Daniel Fuentes, winning 6-2. Riley Reeves and Emily Luetschwager then clinched the first point of the day for the Rams with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
It was Luetschwager who would also give the Rams their next point, winning at No. 2 singles over Daniel Fuentes; 6-1, 6-2.
Palermo (No. 1 singles), Emily Kolbow (No. 4) and Solene Crawley (No. 6) would also pick up straight-sets victories, while Grijalva battled to defeat Loren Nelson 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on court 3.
"It's great to get the first win of the year," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We had good energy in singles. Now we just have to get some rest and some more good practices in and we will be ready our next road trip to Nebraska next weekend."
The Rams will head to Lincoln, Neb., where they will face Nebraska (Friday, 5 p.m. MT) and Eastern Michigan (Saturday, 11 a.m. MT).
