CSU heads to Lincoln, Neb., for two more road tests
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Colorado State women's tennis squad will head to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska (Friday, 5 p.m. MT) and Eastern Michigan (Saturday, 11 a.m. MT).
CSU (1-2) is coming off its first win of the season, a 6-1 defeat of Milwaukee on the road on Sunday. Head coach Jarod Camerota feels these early season matches have already been beneficial for his young squad.
"The freshmen have now had three opportunities to see what college tennis looks like, and that should help us in a variety of situations," Camerota said. "I expect us to compete well this weekend. Neither match will be easy, but if we play well and smart then we can have a positive result."
Sophomore Alyssa Grijalva has been a standout thus far in singles for the Rams, boasting a 3-0 mark at the No. 3 position. Freshman Priscilla Palermo and junior captain Emily Kolbow own 2-1 records in singles, while the duo of Emily Luetschwager and Riley Reeves hold CSU's top doubles mark at 2-1.
Nebraska (0-2) got its season started at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Nashville, Tenn., last weekend, dropping matches to No. 3 Vanderbilt and Virginia. Nebraska went 18-6 last season, including a win over No. 35 Wichita State.
"Nebraska is a good team, they have good players and a ton of depth," Camerota stated.
Eastern Michigan is 1-0, defeating Youngstown State last Friday, 5-2. The Eagles swept doubles and recorded four singles wins in the victory.
"Eastern Michigan is good, Camerota said. "They're an older team with a lot of seniors and they beat Youngstown State in their first match, who was in an NCAA qualifier."
