Rams get goal from Caeley Lordemann in 24th minute, but Buildogs score decisive goal in 74th minute
FRESNO, Calif.  – The Colorado State women's soccer team fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs, 2-1, in a Mountain West match on Sunday afternoon from Fresno State's Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
Colorado State (5-7-4, 2-4-2 MW) continued its recent trend of holding its opponent without a shot on goal for extended stretches, as the Rams limited Fresno State (4-9-3, 3-3-2 MW) to just one in each of the first and second halves; however, each of those that the Rams allowed ended up in the back of their net. Both of the Bulldogs' goals were scored by Emma Chivers, who buried the match's decisive tally in the 74th minute. On that sequence, the ball was played down the right side to Ele Avery, who set up Chivers on a pass from the right side of the box to an open area on the box's left side.
That stretch without a Bulldog shot on goal was sustained for 71:22, as the scoring was opened by the Bulldogs' Chivers in the third minute. Off a long throw-in, Chivers collected the ball inside the penalty area and fired to the left side to make it a 1-0 score for the home team. CSU nearly knotted it up just 12 minutes later, as sophomore forward Ally Murphy-Pauletto found the back of the net on a ball played to the goal area. However, the Rams were ruled offside on the play and the goal was negated.
Â
The Rams did find the then-equalizing goal not too much longer after that, as junior midfielder Caeley Lordemann knotted the match up at one goal apiece in the middle stages of the first half. Senior forward Kaija Ornes, who was credited with an assist on the play, found Lordemann wide open in the box for a header off a corner kick opportunity in the 24th minute.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Colorado State junior midfielder Caeley Lordemann registered her seventh goal as a member of the Colorado State women's soccer team, matching current senior forward Hannah Gerdin for the most on CSU's all-time career list.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Bill Hempen
"We had our moments to shine. At the end of the day, however, we were just not able to put enough together at the right time to come out on top. We're looking forward to playing again in front of our fans at home this coming weekend."
