Williams, Jackson each eclipse 100 yards receiving for the Rams

BOISE, Idaho -- The Colorado State Rams fell behind early at Boise State and were unable to mount a comeback, losing 56-28 to the Broncos on Friday night at Albertsons Stadium.

Preston Williams (nine catches, 154 yards) and Warren Jackson (nine catches, 105 yards) each went over the century mark receiving while Izzy Matthews (12 carries, 109 yards) did the same out of the backfield.

Both K.J. Carta-Samuels and Collin Hill led a pair of scoring drives for the Rams.

Boise State took a 35-0 lead in the second quarter, but the Rams would score the next 14 points to cut the host's lead to three touchdowns in the third quarter. 

The Broncos scored 28 points off of turnovers and special teams. CSU outgained the Broncos in total yards 489-472.



NOTES:
  • CSU had held its previous six opponents scoreless on their opening drives until tonight when Boise State scored on its first possession of the game.
  • The Rams totaled three sacks for the game.
    • CSU has had at least three sacks in each of its last three outings:
      • Six sacks at SJSU (Oct. 6), three sacks vs. New Mexico (Oct. 13)
  • CSU scored its first points of the game with 0:02 remaining in the first half.
    • K.J. Carta-Samuels connected with Preston Williams on a 47-yard touchdown pass.
    • It was the longest TD of Williams' career and CSU's third-longest offensive score of the season (58-yard TD pass from Carta-Samuels to Olabisi Johnson vs. Hawaii; 48-yard TD pass from Carta-Samuels to Trey McBride at Florida)
  • CSU's second touchdown drive went 6 plays for 87 yards (2:13), culminating in an 8-yard TD pass from K.J. Carta-Samuels to Warren Jackson at the 6:13 mark of the third quarter.
  • Junior Jan-Phillip Bombek made his first start for CSU on the defensive line, and true freshman Brandon Derrow made his collegiate debut playing in a reserve role at DE.
  • CSU outgained Boise State, 489-472
  • The Rams committed three turnovers resulting in 14 Broncos points. CSU did not force a turnover, and for season now has a -5 turnover ratio.
  • Boise State added an additional 14 points in the special teams game with a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 44-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on a CSU onside kick attempt.
