Recap: Colorado State wins third conference series with victory over Aggies

LOGAN, Utah – The Colorado State softball team finished the weekend with a 6-4 victory over Utah State on Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Rams its third conference series victory of the season.
Colorado State got on the board first after Lauren Buchanan grounded out on a sacrifice to score Sarah Muzik in the first inning. Haley Donaldson followed with a solo home run to give CSU a 2-0 lead.
Utah State tied things up in the bottom of third after a two-run homer made the score 2-2.
The game wasn't tied long as Buchanan doubled to right center in the top of the fourth to score Muzik and gave the Rams a 3-2 lead again.
The Aggies responded in the bottom half of the inning with another two-run home run to steal a 4-3 advantage.
Danni Klein recorded a hit in the win and she made it count in the top of the fifth with a single to left to score two runs and returned the lead to CSU, 5-4.
Colorado State added an insurance run in the top of the sixth after Corina Gamboa tallied a base hit to score pinch runner Tara Shadowen.
The Rams put the Aggies down in the final two innings to secure the victory and series win.
NOTES
- Haley Donaldson led the Rams' offense with a 3-for-4 performance from the dish, including hitting her sixth home run.
- Lauren Buchanan followed finishing 2-for-3 and tallied two doubles and two RBI.
- Bridgette Hutton started in the circle and went 3 2/3 innings before Kaylynn Pierce finished the game earned the win. The two combined for three strikeouts and just eight hits.
- Sarah Muzik scored two runs and one hit in the win.
- The Rams lead off was effective again, batting .625 (5-8).
