Recap: Rams fall in series opener against Spartans

4/20/2018 2:10:00 PM | Softball

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team came out flat in game one against San Jose State on Friday morning, dropping the series opener, 20-4.

San Jose State scored the first run of the game in the opening frame before extending its lead with five runs in the third, eight in the fourth and six in the fifth to lead 20-0 heading to the fifth. The Spartans used three home runs across the three innings – including hitting two grand slams – and two doubles to help rack up the runs.

The Rams tallied four hits and left three runners on base in the first four innings, including putting just two runners into scoring position.

Colorado State avoided the shutout in the bottom of the fifth as Danni Klein hit her second homer of the season with one out. The Rams added three runs later in the frame after Corina Gamboa hit a base-clearing two-out double to right center to make a small dent in the deficit.
