CSU’s win total most in over a decade

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams clinched their winningest season since 2005, picking up their 11th win of the year with a 7-0 defeat of Northern Colorado on Thursday at the University Tennis Complex.

The Rams (11-10) swept the Bears (5-15) for their fourth home win of the season. CSU is now 15-2 against UNC since 2000.

CSU's first and third doubles pairs picked up victories to push the team out to a 1-0 match lead. Freshmen Emily Luetschwager and Emma Corwin won 6-2 at No. 3, while sophomore Alyssa Grijalva and Priscilla Palermo won 6-3 at No. 1.

Junior captain Emily Kolbow got the Rams on the board in singles first, winning 6-0, 6-4 on court 4 over Madeline Doherty. She was quickly followed by Grijalva at No. 3, who beat Tristen Bryant-Otake 6-1, 7-5.

Luetschwager would provide the match-clinching win at No. 2, coming away victorious by a score of 6-2, 6-2 over Anna Battersby.

Corwin added a straight-sets singles victory as well, winning 6-1, 6-2 against Mana Koitabashi at No. 6. Palermo and sophomore Riley Reeves each picked up wins in third-set tiebreaks, as well.

STAT OF THE MATCH
11 – The Rams picked up their 11th win of the season, equaling their most since the 2005 season. CSU won 14 matches in 2004.

IN THEIR WORDS…
"We took care of business and did what we had to do. We got through the doubles point quickly and everyone did their part in singles. It's great to get a win against an in-state rival." – CSU head coach Jarod Camerota on his team's performance on Thursday

"I'm proud of the team. Our assistant coach Erica Medlin and volunteer assistant Scott have done great work with the team. The players have put in extra work on their own too, and that is important. That's the kind of culture we want for this program; a team that works hard and goes above and beyond. We are excited, but we still have Wyoming and the conference tournament ahead of us. We are hungry and still want more." – Camerota on the team reaching 11 wins for the first time since 2005.

NOTES
  • Grijalva's singles win gives her 20 for the season and 14 this spring. Her 14-3 record in dual matches leads the team.
  • The 7-0 win is CSU's second sweep of an opponent this season. The Rams also beat Omaha 7-0 on March 3.
  • Grijalva and Palermo are now 16-7 overall and 11-5 this spring in doubles. Both marks lead the team.
  • Kolbow and Reeves have only lost once since first becoming a doubles duo on March 24.
