Recap: Rams can’t come through in game two
4/21/2018 7:58:00 PM | Softball
San Jose State scored in the first inning after loading the bases before it forced a walk to trot a run across. The Rams suffocated any other threat, getting off the field after putting the next two batters out.
Colorado State took the lead in the bottom of the second after Hannah McCorkhill hit a sac fly to center before Ashley MIchelena recorded an infield single to score the go-ahead run.
The Spartans retook the lead in the top of the third with three runs off a pair of hits and a CSU error to hold a 4-2 advantage. The Rams responded in the bottom half of the frame with two runs off a RBI triple from Corina Gamboa and a SJS error to tie the score at 4-4.
Unfortunately Colorado State's offense went cold the rest of the game as it put just one runner in scoring position the rest of the way. San Jose State broke the tie in the top of the fifth with a run before scoring six insurance runs the final two innings to earn the series win with an 11-4 victory.
STAT OF THE DAY
Amber Nelson saw the ball well at the plate, recording three hits, including two doubles and scoring a run.
