Recap: Rams come out swinging in series opener against San Diego State

SAN DIEGO – The Colorado State softball team came out strong to earned a 3-0 victory over San Diego State in the series opener on Friday night.
The Rams wasted no time getting on the board in the opener. CSU scored three runs in the first inning after Haley Donaldson started with a RBI double before Amber Nelson followed with a base clearing triple to get the Rams an early 3-0 lead.
San Diego State loaded up the bases in the second inning with one out, but were quickly shut down with a strikeout from Bridgette Hutton and a groundout to get off the field.
The Aztecs looked to cut into the Rams' lead putting a runner on in the third, but CSU again got off the field. Both team's defenses kept the game quiet the rest of the day as a strikeout and a pair of groundouts secured the win.
STAT OF THE DAY
Colorado State was effective at the plate, outhitting the Aztecs 6-5 and only striking out twice.
NOTES
- Sarah Muzik led the Rams going 2-for-3 with a run scored
- Haley Donaldson made her mark with the lone double for CSU
- Amber Nelson had a team-best two RBI and also recorded a triple
- Bridgette Hutton earned the win with a complete game shutout with four strikeouts and allowed five hits
