Recap: Rams fall in second game of San Diego State series

SAN DIEGO – Despite scoring in the first inning, the Colorado State softball team fell 6-2 in the second game of the series against San Diego State Saturday night.
Colorado State jumped on the board first after Sarah Muzik got on base and moved into scoring position before Haley Donaldson knocked a single up the middle to score Muzik.
San Diego State responded in the bottom half of the first frame with five runs off a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a grand slam.
The Rams narrowed the gap in the third to 5-2 after Ashley Michelena forced a walk with the bases loaded to walk in a run. CSU looked to cut the Aztecs further with the bases loaded with no outs, but failed to convert.
SDSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI double, while keeping the Rams at bay allowing just one baserunner the rest of the game.
STAT OF THE DAY
Sarah Muzik was difficult at the plate, forcing three walks while scoring a run for CSU.
NOTES
- Haley Donaldson and Madison Kilcrease recorded the only hits for Colorado State
- Both Ashley Michelena and Madison Kilcrease were aggressive on the bases, each swiping one.
- Alison Petty was tagged with the loss staring the game and pitching one inning before Kylynn Pierce finished the game
- CSU was held to two hits, both coming on lead off
