The Rams added to their lead the next inning after Buchanan knocked a base hit to center to score two more runs and put the score at 5-0 in favor of the CSU.
Northern Colorado scored its lone run in the bottom of the third after loading the bases on walks before scoring on a fielder's choice.
CSU added to its lead in the top of the fourth as Buchanan and Donaldson hit back-to-back doubles to score three more runs to increase the Rams lead to 8-1.
Colorado State put the run rule into effect in the following inning after Dani Klein hit an RBI single to left.
