CSU reaches 10 wins for first time since 2007

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State tennis team reached the 10-win plateau for the 2018 season with a 5-2 win over Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sunday afternoon.

The win gives CSU (10-10, 1-4 MW) its first double-digit win total since 2007, when the team finished 10-12. It was also the Rams' first victory against a Mountain West opponent this season.

"We've been so close," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said, reflecting on CSU's challenging league slate to this point. "We knew we had to just keep competing and working hard and the wins would eventually come. This feels good, and I'm really proud of the team."

CSU's doubles came through clutch yet again against the Falcons. After the hosts took the first doubles match on court 2, CSU rallied to win the next two to take a 1-0 match lead. Freshmen Emily Luetschwager and Emma Corwin combined to win 6-3 at No. 3, and the top duo of Alyssa Grijalva and Priscilla Palermo won a nailbiter at No. 1, 7-5.

Corwin and sophomore Riley Reeves promptly extended the Rams' lead to 3-0 with straight-set singles wins on courts 5 and 6, with both players winning by scores of 6-1, 6-2.

Grijalva sealed the match for the Rams with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3. The win was Grijalva's 13th of the spring and pushed the team to a 4-0 lead.

Junior Emily Kolbow would also register a singles win, defeating Ash Harvey in three sets; 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-8.

The Rams will finish their regular season with a pair of home matches. CSU hosts Northern Colorado (April 19, 2 p.m. MT) for a non-conference affair before hosting rival Wyoming (April 22, 12 p.m. MT) to close out the regular season. The MW Tournament will take place April 26-29 in Boise, Idaho.
