Recap: Colorado State drops game one against Boise State

5/4/2018 7:50:00 PM | Softball

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team hung tough with Boise State, but could not take the lead in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Ram Field, falling 4-1.

Boise State got on the board first after a lead-off homer in the top of the second gave it a 1-0 advantage.

Colorado State tied things in the bottom of the third after Sarah Muzik started the inning reach base on a throwing error by the Broncos. Muzik then ran the bases aggressively reaching third on a sac bunt by Lauren Buchanan before swiping home on the play since the Broncos failed to cover it, knotting the score at 1-1.

The Broncos broke the tie in the fifth with a fielder's choice after a miscue to start the inning put a runner on third. Boise State added a pair of runs in the final inning to extend its lead to three and to put the pressure on the Rams' offense.

The Rams started the inning with Hannah McCorkhill hitting a single and advancing to second on an interference call, but she would be stranded there as CSU went down in order the rest of the way.

STAT OF THE DAY
Sarah Muzik scored the lone run for Colorado State with aggressive base running and awareness.

NOTES
- The Rams held Boise State to leave nine runners on base, including the bases loaded in the second
- Bridgette Hutton hurled the complete game, allowing three earned running and striking out a batter
- Both teams recorded just four hits each
- The Rams' defense forced the Broncos to struggle with runners on and with runners in scoring position, finishing 0-for-16 and 0-for-10, respectfully
- CSU also struggled in those situations, failing to register a hit with runners on (0-for-13) and runners in scoring position (0-for-5)
- The Rams' lead off was top efficiency, finishing 5-for-7
