BOULDER, Colo. -- The Colorado State tennis squad completed its first day at the Colorado Invitational on Friday.
The tournament format features several flights of singles and doubles, with representatives from seven different schools competing.
Sophomore Emily Luetschwager picked up a singles win over Allison Stewart of Abilene Christian in the Ralphie singles draw, 6-2, 6-2.
Stella Cliffe notched a victory, beating Madeline Doherty of Northern Colorado in the CU singles draw, 6-1, 6-2.
Another sophomore, Emma Corwin, tallied a straight-set win over Carolina Chernyetsky of Sacramento State in the Boulder draw, 6-3, 6-2.
In the A draw for doubles, Luetschwager and Alyssa Grijalva won their first match against Stephanie Pitts and Nini Memishishi of ACU, 6-4. They were topped in the second round, however, by Gemma Garcia and Maria Tyrina of San Diego, 6-4.
Cliffe and senior Emily Kolbow starred in the B doubles draw, picking up two wins. The duo beat Jordan Henry and Ileana Mocciola of ACU, 6-4. They then defeated Sophia Chow and Kati Kukaras of USD, 6-4.
CSU and the rest of the squads competing at the Colorado Invitational will resume action on Saturday morning.
