Rams Fall in Windy Showdown Against Boise State, 1-0

10/20/2019 3:51:00 PM | Women's Soccer

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As the wind blew, it carried away a perfect home stretch and a chance to move atop the Mountain West standings by beating Boise State for the first time on Sunday afternoon at CSU Field.

While the Colorado State's women's soccer came up short in a 1-0 battle against the defending conference champions, the Rams learned effort and toughness are going to be key as they enter into the final run of this season.

Midfielders Caeley Lordemann and Samantha Studt didn't come off the field once, playing the entire 90 minutes. As the Rams entered the second half down by one and heading into the wind, their offensive attack just couldn't get rolling as the Broncos kept applying heavy pressure throughout.

"Today was a tough loss, and this feeling hurts, but I know we're going to come back from this," Lordemann said. "I feel more motivated than ever, and we plan on seeing them again this postseason, so I'll be excited when the opportunity comes to get them back."

There were a lot of uncontrollable factors which contributed to the Rams first loss at home this season, but head coach Bill Hempen is constantly reminding his team that no matter what the situation presents, always give your best effort.

"We played a very good team today, but it's not over," Hempen said. "We've had a great work ethic all season and we're putting in the effort, but we're still learning how to put those final pieces together so we can close out tough matches like these."

As the Rams fall to 10-5-1 and 5-3-0 in conference play, the last three games are going to be critical and will require focusing on the single task at hand with a positive mindset.

"Although the score says otherwise, I thought we played one of our best games against our toughest opponent," Lordemann said. "It was a hard-fought game, and this is just a learning experience for us; the only thing we can do now is get ready and prepare for our next conference game."

The Rams head to Reno, Nev., on Friday to play the Wolf Pack for their first out-of-state game since September in an effort to clinch the playoffs and make their first postseason run in program history.
