Team back for spring season in January
LAS VEGAS – The Rams exited the ITA Mountain Regional tennis tournament on Friday by picking up a few wins in the consolation rounds and still feeling good overall about their performance to end the fall campaign.
On Thursday, Stella Cliffe became the first Colorado State women's player to reach the quarterfinal round since Emily KIrchem in 2006, but fell to fourth-seeded Sara Nayar of Colorado 6-3, 6-2. The two doubles teams which reached the round of 16 both fell in straight sets, with Nayar again part of the top-seeded equation for CU in beating Cliffe and partner Emily Luetschwager 8-4; Priscilla Palermo and Alyssa Grijalva fell 8-6 to a team from Utah.
"It was a great run for Stella, and I feel like we ended on a good note," CSU coach Jarod Camerota said. "Hopefully that gives us some motivation for the offseason before the spring starts."
In the consolation rounds at singles, Luetschwager, Grijalva and Anastasiia Kotsyuba won consolation matches, while Corwin dropped hers; the doubles team of Riley Reeves and Corwin dropped their final match.
"Our singles players had some good wins and played some solid matches," Camerota said. "It was a good way for them to end on a positive note, as they all faced some good players. Those were quality wins for all of them."
Colorado State resumes the season after the holiday break on Jan. 10, 2020 at the Denver Invitational.
