Colorado State defeats Pacific, rain

STANFORD, Calif. – The Colorado State softball team began the DeMarini Invitational with a win against Pacific and the rain in five innings, as weather wreaked havoc on Friday causing delays throughout the day. The Rams' game against the Tigers finally started at 4:20 p.m., MT when it was originally scheduled for 1:15 p.m., MT and ended at about 7 p.m., MT.

Colorado State scored first in the bottom of the second inning after Laura Buchanan led off the frame by hitting her first homerun of the season.

The Rams but the Tigers down in order in the third, before opening up the scoring in the home half. Amber Nelson continued swinging her big bat, recording her fifth double of the season score a pair of runner. After another single and a walk, Corina Gamboa cleared the bases, blasting her first homer of the year, to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.

CSU's defense continued to shutout Pacific, holding them to just two hits through four innings. The Rams added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Isabella Navarro knocked a two RBI single up the middle before Gamboa pushed Buchanan across home.

The victory was the first of the season for the Rams, via the mercy rule.
