Rams hold off Lobos to win 12th straight

Corina Gamboa blasts two homers to lift Rams to victory
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State softball team held off New Mexico to remain undefeated in Mountain West action and push its winning streak to 12 games. The Rams improve to 21-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
Rams 9, Lobos 7 | Box Score
New Mexico (8-19, 1-3 MW) took the lead after scoring a run on a RBI double to left field. The Lobos increased its lead in the third frame with a RBI single down the right-field line to lead 2-0, while also keeping the Rams' offense quiet.
Colorado State tied the game in the fourth after Corina Gamboa hit her first homer of the game – a two run shot to right field. The Rams' offense kept it momentum going as it took the lead two batters later as Isabella Navarro reached on a Lobo error, which also scored a run. Two batters later, Tara Shadowen knocked a RBI single up the middle to cap the four-run four-hit inning and gave CSU a 4-2.
The Rams continued their scoring spree in the fifth with another two runs after Navarro and Shadowen record RBIs to give CSU a 6-2 advantage.
New Mexico wouldn't go away easy as the Lobos tied the game at 6-6 after a three-run homer and took the lead shortly after with a solo shot to lead, 7-6.
Colorado State would charge back in the following frame, as Gamboa hit her second home run of the game with another two-run blast to give the Rams an 8-7 lead. CSU added an insurance run in the final frame after Shadowen hit a double to left to score a run to make the score, 9-7.
New Mexico put a runner on base via a walk, but a double play and a strike out secured the victory for the Rams.

- The Rams – who lead the nation in doubles – recorded five in the win, led by Navarro who tallied two
- Tara Shadowen finished with three hits, including two RBI
- Isabelle Navarro scored a team-best three runs, while Corina Gamboa and Amber Nelson added two apiece
- Bridgette Hutton started the game and hurled 4 1/3 inning allowing five earned runs and struck out four before being relieved
- Taylor Gilmore entered the game in the fifth and allowed just one run, while putting down four Lobos to earn the win
