Rams score big late to take down New Mexico in five

Colorado State increases its winning streak to 13-consecutive games with a run-rule win over the Lobos Saturday.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. The Colorado State softball team continues its perfect season against Mountain West foes after recording a 9-1 win at New Mexico in five innings on Saturday. The Rams have now won 13-consecutive games as they improve to 22-4 overall and 5-0 in league play.

Both teams went scoreless over the first three innings, registering a combined three hits. Colorado State broke the spell in the top of the fourth after Haley Donaldson doubled to right center to score a run before Danni Klein give the Rams a 2-0 with a RBI ground out.
 
Colorado State opened up the scoring in the top of the fifth, recording seven runs on six hits to take a 9-0 lead. The Rams hit two home runs in the frame – a lead-off homer by Tara Shadowen before Danni Klein jacked a grand slam to give CSU a commanding lead.
 
New Mexico (8-20, 1-4 MW) scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth with one out with a single before the game ended via run rule.
 
NOTES
- Three Rams tallied a pair of hits in the win, led by Lauren Buchanan and Haley Donaldson who both posted a 2-for-3 performance
- CSU knocked five extra-base hits in the win – two doubles, a triple and a pair of homers
- Jessica Jarecki (9-1) earned the win after throwing the five inning allowing just one run and striking out seven batters
- Colorado State has now one 13-consecutive games, dating back to the Mary Nutter at the end of February
 
STAT OF THE GAME
Danni Klein recorded just one hit in the quick win, but tallied five RBI which included a grand slam in the fifth inning. The Rams have now hit three grand slams so far this season.
 
UP NEXT
Colorado State will finish the New Mexico series with game three on Sunday starting at noon.
