Rams comeback twice after slow start against the Bears
3/26/2019 8:54:00 PM | Softball
Colorado State extends winnings streaks against Northern Colorado to 12 and season streak to 15 straight.
Rams 4, Bears 3 (8) | Box Score
The game started with something that hasn't happened during the Rams' 14-game winning streak – go four consecutive innings without scoring. The last time CSU didn't score in the first four frames was in its last loss, which was against No. 2 UCLA on Feb. 24 at the Mary Nutter. During the first four innings, Colorado State registered just two hits, while Northern Colorado took the lead in the bottom of the third with an unearned run on a RBI single.
Colorado State tied the game in the fifth after Danni Klein started the frame with a double before scoring on a sac fly by Tara Shadowen.
The Rams went down in order in the sixth, while the Bears retook the lead in the bottom of the frame after a RBI double put CSU in a pitch having just three outs left.
After putting a pair of runners on base via a walk with one out in the seventh, Ashley Ruiz singled through the left side to score a run and tie the game at 2-2.
CSU put UNC down in order in the seventh to force extra innings for the first time this season and the international tie breaker rules came into play.
With a runner placed at second, Haley Donaldson gave the Rams the go-ahead run and was followed by Corina Gamboa who also doubled to give the Rams a 4-2 lead.
With three outs away, the Bears scored on a deep pop behind second to put the score within one at 4-3 but Bridgette Hutton secured the win with her seventh strikeout of the game.
NOTES
- Colorado State recorded four doubles in the win, led by Haley Donaldson who had two

- Bridgette Hutton (9-2) earned the win after throwing all eight frames, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven
- The Rams were 1-2 when trailing after four innings and 0-4 after six
STAT OF THE GAME

QUOTES
Head Coach Jen Fisher on the win…
I thought Northern Colorado's Vidal pitched a heck of a game and I think she really had us pressing a little bit and was hitting her spots – so it's good to get away with a win. I was happy with our patience at the plate and happy how we came back twice. I thought Bridgette Hutton pitched a great game, Ashley Michelena's throw to the plate in sixth inning was also huge even though our defense was a little shaky to start the game. I am happy that we were able to sneak out of here with a win.
UP NEXT
Colorado State will return to Mountain West Conference this weekend, hosting Utah State for a three-game series starting on Friday afternoon at Ram Field.
