Rams finish non-conference action this weekend

COLORADO STATE CLASSIC II
Colorado State will finish its non-conference schedule this weekend, hosting the Colorado State Classic II. The Rams are scheduled to play five games against three different opponents, including Syracuse from the ACC which will be CSU's sixth opponent from a 'Power 5' conference this season.

The Rams will begin the tournament Friday playing Wagner College at 3 p.m., MT. Colorado State will continue action on Saturday against Dayton at 1:30 p.m., MT and Syracuse at 3:45 p.m., MT. CSU will finish the weekend on Sunday playing the Flyers and Orange again at 11:15 a.m., MT and 1:30 p.m., MT, respectfully.

During the 2019 season, the Colorado State softball team will continuously recognize it being #25Strong, referring to 25 years since being reinstated as a sport at Colorado State. The Rams' softball program began in 1976, but did not compete during the 1993 season due to the program being cut at the end of the 1992 season. Colorado State reinstated the softball program and competed in 1994.

STRONG START
Colorado State will look to continue its strong start to the season as it has recorded six shutouts and is outscoring its opponents, 95-33. In 2018, the Rams totaled six shutouts all season after posting their best start – winning the first seven games – since the 1997 season.

LAST TIME OUT
Colorado State continued non-conference action last week at the Colorado State Classic II at Ram Field posting a 3-0 record, including a pair of five inning games. CSU was schedule to play an additional three games against Stony Brook and Idaho State, but inclement weather forced cancellations. The Rams started the weekend with its biggest victory of the season with a 16-0 rout against Idaho State in five frames. CSU followed the home opener with a 12-9 win over Nebraska before finishing the week defeating Stony Brook, 9-1 in five innings.

Senior ace Bridgette Hutton hurled her first-career no-hitter in the dominating victory over Idaho State. She allowed just three baserunner - all on walks - while not allow a hit in the five inning victory on her way to recording her fourth win of the season.

CONFERENCE AWARDS
Colorado State earned its third Mountain West weekly softball award as Lauren Buchanan was named the Player of the Week early this week. The Rams have had three weekly awards so far this season.

CONFERENCE AWARDS SWEEP
Colorado State swept the Mountain West weekly softball awards last week as Jessica Jarecki claimed Pitcher of the Week honors and Ashley Ruiz was named the Player of the Week. It was the first MW weekly accolade for both players.

GET ON BASE
Multiple Rams have gotten on base this year, including in every game. Corina Gamboa has reached base in all put the first game this season as she carries a 15-game on-base streak into the Colorado State Classic II.

OPPONENT SCOUT
Seakawks: Wagner College carries a 2-6 record into the Colorado State Classic II after posting a 1-3 record at the Green and White Invitational at Charlotte last weekend, The Seahawks suffered losses to Charleston, Charlotte and Valpo. Wagner recorded a lone victory over Valpo on the final day of the Invite. The Seahawks other victory of the season game in the opening weekend with a 1-0 win over Purdue.

Flyers: Dayton will bring a 7-5 record to the Colorado State Classic Ii after posting a 3-0 mark in at the Belmont Bruin Classic in Nashville, Tenn., last weekend. The Flyers picked up wins over Alabama A&M, Northern Kentucky and Belmont. DU was schedule to play two more games last weekend against Alabama A&M and Belmont, but were canceled.

Orange: Syracuse will come to Fort Collins with a 5-11 record after going 1-2 last weekend at the OKST/Tulsa Invitational. The Orange lone victory was a 7-0 win over Seattle in the weekend opener. 'Cuse ended February at the Bubly Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., and recorded wins over Illinois State and Florida A&M.
