CSU advances at MW Championship with 4-1 win over Nevada

No. 6 seeded Rams pick up their first win in the postseason event since 2013
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Sixth-seeded Colorado State got off to a quick start and finished it off with a 4-1 win over No. 11 seed Nevada in the opening round of the 2019 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship in San Diego Wednesday afternoon. With their first victory in the postseason event since 2013, the Rams improved to 11-9 on the year, while the Wolf Pack end their year at 10-11.
"What a great win!" head coach Jarod Camerota said. "Nevada competed hard and we had to persevere to win. It feels great to extend our season one more day. We will try to do the same tomorrow! The team is enjoying the privilege of playing conference tournament tennis. These are the types of matches that people play college tennis for. We are excited and looking forward to the challenge of playing San Diego State tomorrow!"
CSU started with a win at No. 1 doubles from Emily Kolbow and Stella Cliffe, as the duo took a 6-3 victory at No. 1. Nevada captured the No. 2 win setting up the early drama at No. 3. The match went into a tie breaker, with Emily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo sealing the point with the 7-6 win.
The Rams quickly went up 2-0 with Alyssa Grijalva earning a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6. Nevada won at No. 5 to cut the margin to 2-1, but CSU advanced on the strength of a 6-4, 6-2 win by Nancy Ghanem at No. 3 shortly followed by a 6-2, 6-4 victory for Palermo at No. 4 to send the Rams to the quarterfinals.
CSU will take on host and No. 3 seed San Diego State in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 3 p.m. MT/2 p.m. PT. Live scoring will be available on TheMW.com.
